3. Cleaning

All participants in a class or course are required to clean their workspace and any areas of the Studio that they have used at the end of each class, this is for good studio practice and to prevent the build-up of clay dust.

Please read more on the potential dangers of silica dust if we do not clean away clay.

4. Collection of work

It takes 3 to 6 weeks for the pieces to be ready for collection after the class. It can sometimes take longer depending on our kiln firing schedule and the weather conditions (for example in the winter months pieces might take longer to dry). We will keep your pieces for 6 weeks after we have contacted you to collect. After this time your pieces will be either donated or disposed of.

Health and Safety Students who attend our pottery making classes and workshops are agreeing to abide by the guidelines of our Health & Safety Policy as instructed by tutors. Repeated failure to do so could result in termination of the student’s participation rights on the class or course, without refund.

Students use the Studio at their own risk with awareness of the inherent hazards of a pottery studio environment, which include, but are not limited to, use of sharp tools and sharp edges, exposure to toxic materials, the dangers of using materials and equipment at high temperatures, as well as the risks associated with breathing silica dust.

Kotani Ltd accepts no liability for any injury suffered by any student on the Studio premises or outside the Studio.

Each student is required to keep all surfaces clean of clay and glaze, and to clean all areas including the floor around their workstation thoroughly before completing their session. This is to minimise the risks caused by breathing clay and glaze dusts. We practice the wet cleaning method, and everything must be wiped down with a wet sponge and floors with a wet mop. No dusting or use of broom as dry clay is potentially harmful.
