Glaze Chemistry
6:30-9pm
Teacher: Mila
This is an introductory course to glaze chemistry. For potters who want to understand the store-bought and studio glazes they use, or want to make their own!
We will go over the basic chemical compositions that make up a glaze, what raw ingredients are commonly used, and how to make sure our glazes are food safe.
You will learn about different surface effects and how to achieve them by adjusting ingredients.
We will also discuss colourants, and how they behave when combined with different ingredients, including each other.
Finally, we will look at some examples of glaze recipes and analyse them using a tool called a Stull Map.
